The ZDF Arena was built in the Sony Center – Berlin on the occasion of the 2006 World Cup in Germany. The ZDF Arena was ZDF’s television studio, where the World Cup matches were analysed with prominent guests. In addition, around 3000 spectators were able to watch the soccer matches live on large screens and television broadcasts thanks to the studio technology for sporting events from AVMS.

Berliners and guests from all over the world were able to experience the Sony Center, on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, in a unique new way during the World Cup. At the centre of the Forum was the ZDF Arena, the central ZDF studio for the World Cup, from which the Mainz-based broadcaster’s entire football coverage – a total of around 90 hours of live programming from the ZDF Arena alone – came. Johannes B. Kerner and the two ZDF experts Jürgen Klopp and Urs Meier were able to welcome up to 10,000 viewers per day there. All 56 World Cup matches on free-to-air television were shown in the ZDF Arena on six large screens with a total screen area of 100 square metres. For security reasons, free tickets were issued for this purpose, which were available at Potsdamer Platz two and a half hours before the start of the match.

What the guests were able to see during the football broadcasts and live programmes was also of the best picture quality: six LED walls of the latest technology offered a total of 100 square metres of screen space.

AVMS equipped the arena with LED walls, monitors, lighting and sound and provided permanent support for the show.
