B3 BEN Awards with Opening Gala and Extravaganza Virtuale in Frankfurt

The B3 Biennale of the Moving Image is a creative festival. It shows films, video art, computer games, installations and virtual reality by international artists and creatives. As the successor to the eDIT Filmmaker’s Festival, it has been hosted at various locations in Frankfurt am Main since 2013. Initially every two years, now every year. In 2019, B3 was held for the first time together with the cultural festival THEARTS+ at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

In addition to the exhibits, there will be an opening gala, lectures, discussions, workshops, performances, poetry slams, games, XR Experiences and live musical acts. In addition, an award ceremony, in which works from all categories will be
B3 BEN Awards
 will be awarded. Among them is the Extravaganza Virtuale, an artistic-political homage to the first international satellite transmission “Good Morning, Mr. Orwell” by the Korean video artist Nam June Paik.

Professional online streaming studio technology in use at the Bienale of the Moving Image

AVMS had already taken care of the technical side of this widely known event in previous years. Planned as a hybrid event, it had to be rescheduled at short notice to an online-only event due to the increasing Corona infections. This took place in the festival centre Astor Filmlounge.

For this we have shot and processed 60 short presentations in the last few days. 16 live broadcasts from all over the world were realized within one event. Over 200 films and short portraits were uploaded to our media servers. Our well-rehearsed technical crew ensured the smooth running of the online event with a great deal of flexibility. All crew members were subjected to a Corona test shortly before the event and were of course only allowed to participate if the result was negative.

The global livestream was hosted and moderated by Aspekte presenter Jo Schück, Austrian artist Johannes Grenzfurthner and auteur filmmaker and film music composer Brenda Lien. They guided the audience through B3 BEN Awards with Opening Gala and Extravaganza Virtuale in Frankfurt 2020.
